Kid Tapp™ overview episode
The application stack
- Common App or Coalition App covers most schools with one form.
- Early Action = non-binding and usually better odds. Early Decision = binding, only if it's affordable.
- Ask for recommendation letters 4+ weeks early with a resume and a reminder of what you did in their class.
Essay structure that works
- Open with a specific moment, not a quote or a definition.
- Show one story, one change, one lesson — not your whole life.
- Last paragraph answers: what will you DO with this at their school?
- Read it out loud; if you'd never say a sentence, cut it.
Deadline map
- Aug–Sep: draft essays and finalize the school list.
- Oct 1: FAFSA opens — file it, even if you think you won't qualify.
- Nov 1–15: Early Action / Early Decision deadlines.
- Jan 1–15: most regular decision deadlines. Mar–Apr: award letters. May 1: decision day.
