Kid Tapp™ overview episode
Sentence structure
- Every sentence needs a subject and a verb that agree in number.
- Independent clause stands alone; dependent clause needs a partner.
- Fix run-ons with a period, a semicolon, or a comma plus and/but/so.
Punctuation that matters
- Commas separate items, clauses and introductory phrases.
- Apostrophes show possession (Maya's) or contraction (it's = it is).
- Its = belonging to it. It's = it is. This is the most graded error in school.
Five-paragraph essay
- Intro with a clear thesis sentence stating your argument.
- Three body paragraphs: claim, evidence, explanation.
- Conclusion restates the thesis and answers 'so what?'.
🎬 Episode: Rewrite the weak paragraph
Turn vague writing into precise writing in three passes.
- Pass 1 — cut filler words: very, really, a lot, things, stuff.
- Pass 2 — replace weak verbs with strong ones: 'went fast' → 'sprinted'.
- Pass 3 — read it aloud; fix anything you stumble over.
